ACT constructs thriving futures for the next generation of skilled trade workers. Provided with personalized mentorship from industry experts and safe hands-on experience, our students gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

We represent the commercial construction industry, and partner with the State of Alabama’s K-12 Career and Technical Education System to form a uniquely blended private/public program equipped to jumpstart students’ careers with local internships followed by job placement opportunities.

Trades

  • Physical labor tasks at construction sites

    May operate hand and power tools of all types—air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, etc.

  • Installation and maintenance of electrical systems and wiring in businesses, factories, and homes

    Use of blueprints to determine locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, and panel boards

    Use of ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, etc. to test connections and ensure components’ compatibility and safety

  • Installation, service, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems in commercial buildings

  • Formation of stone structures, such as piers, walls, and abutments

    Formation of walks, curbstones, and special masonry types for vats, tanks, and floors

  • Structural welding for steel formation, mechanical piping, etc.

    Requires math skills and ability to read detailed spec sheets and blueprints
